William D. Powers, Chairman of New York Republican State Committee Elected to Board of Univec Board.

GARDEN CITY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 20, 1997--Univec Inc. (NASDAQ: UNVC), announced today the election of William D. Powers, Chairman of the New York Republican State Committee, to its Board of Directors.

Powers has been Chairman of the Committee since 1991. He currently serves as an officer of the Republican National Committee.

In announcing the election of Powers, Joel Schoenfeld, President and CEO of Univec, said, "Bill Powers brings to our Board strong organizational skills and the proper credentials to help us to fulfill our corporate objectives of making our patented syringes the norm for the entire medical community. We believe Bill Powers is a significant addition to the strength of Univec's management and Board."

Powers played a key role in the 1980 election of U.S. Senator Alfonse D'Amato and was named Senator D'Amato's Special Assistant and Director of State Operations. Powers currently sits on the Board of Directors of Trustco Bank and is a former Board member of WAMC, Albany's Public Radio station. As a lecturer at SUNY Albany, SUNY New Paltz and Harvard University on both graduate and undergraduate levels, Powers has spoken about the two-party system and the political dynamics of state local governments.

Univec, which recently completed an Initial Public Offering (IPO), manufactures and distributes a line of patented auto destruct syringes which are designed to halt the spread of communicable diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis B through the reuse of contaminated syringes.
