Willamette Valley falls in Babe Ruth title game.

QUINCY, Mass. - A two-run fifth inning was the difference as Youngstown, Ohio, defeated the Willamette Valley All-Stars of the Eugene area 3-1 in the championship game of the 14-year-old Babe Ruth World Series on Saturday.

Tournament most outstanding player Corey Collins struck out four and allowed five hits for Youngstown, which won its fifth consecutive game in the tournament after losing its first two pool-play games. Collins broke the tournament's innings pitched record by throwing 21 innings and tied the tournament strikeout record with 23.

The only run Collins allowed Willamette Valley was unearned, as Anthony Kreitz scored on a throwing error in the fourth inning to tie the game at 1-1.

Kreitz led off the inning with a single to left and stole second on the next pitch. Kreitz took off for third on Alex Besaw's flyout to right, and he scored when the throw from the outfield got past Youngstown's third baseman.

Armani Johnson's two-out single got Youngstown's game-winning rally going in the fifth.

After Johnson stole second, he scored the go-ahead run on Anthony Brunetti's single to left. Collins then drove a pitch over the center fielder's head for a triple that scored Brunetti for a 3-1 Youngstown lead.

Willamette Valley had the tying run at the plate with no outs in the seventh, but a groundout and a line-out double play ended the game.

Willamette Valley's Vince Belfatto, Jared Thompson and Sky Wilgus were selected to the All World Series team. Thompson and Andrew Schumacher were selected to the Spikes Defensive team.
