In related news, John Wiley & Sons Ltd. (Chichester, UK), Wiley's U.K. unit, has completed the acquisition of Health Economics Evaluations Database (HEED; Chichester), an online source of health economic information and evaluations. No terms of the deal were given.

HEED was developed as a joint initiative between the Office of Health Economics (OHE; London) and the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA; Geneva). The database is used by health economists in the pharmaceutical industry as well as academic and healthcare decision makers, such as the National Institute for Clincial Excellence.

It contains information on cost-effectiveness and other forms of economic evaluation of medicines and other treatments and medical interventions. It is a subscription service that uses fees to finance all database operations and provides access to 34,000 references divided into two major categories, including bibliographic references and references that have been reviewed according to a standard report format by a health economist. The latter constitute nearly half of the total of 34,000. HEED publishes over 200 records per month online.

Wiley Vice President Deborah Dixon noted that HEED "contains more records and content than any other economics database. Its unique advantages also include searching non-English journals." The company said the purchase of HEED "complements (our) expanding Health Economics and database portfolio," which includes "Health Economics" and "Pharmaceutical Statistics" journals, The Cochrane Library and InfoPOEMS.
