Ethernet offers a more economical alternative. In a Metro Ethernet network, multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) may be deployed to provide quality of service (QoS). , Other Next-Generation Applications

RICHARDSON, Texas Richardson is a suburb in Dallas County and Collin County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 91,803, while according to a 2006 estimate, the population had grown to 99,200.  -- Eltek Valere, a leading power system provider for telecommunication and industrial applications, today announced the X5000A4, a 100 amp, high-efficiency AC-DC power rectifier rectifier, component of an electric circuit used to change alternating current to direct current. Rectifiers are made in various forms, all operating on the principle that current passes through them freely in one direction but only slightly or not at all in the  with wide AC input range, allowing it to be used in all high-power telecommunications applications.

With an input range of 208VAC to 480VAC, a carrier can standardize on the X5000A4 for all of its central office, mobile switching center A switching center is a node in a telecommunications Circuit switching network which is connected to either another switching center and/or to end user devices. Switching centers are aware of other centers and possible routes between them such that on demand a center can establish , and datacenter applications.

The X5000A4 is a central component in Eltek Valere's Scalable Power System, the company's flagship offering for high-power applications. The Scalable Power System can be configured with any of Eltek Valere's X5000 family of rectifiers for up to 10,000 amps of power in half the footprint of conventional power systems.

This universal rectifier provides the high power levels needed for IPTV, metro Ethernet, voice over IP and other next-generation applications while simplifying system engineering and installation, streamlining inventory management, and speeding deployment schedules.

"This new rectifier delivers the high-efficiency and power output that Eltek Valere customers expect, with operational efficiencies that will help to lower total cost of ownership," said Greg Fasullo, Eltek Valere chief marketing officer. "This combination gives our customers cost competitiveness and high service quality to help them build highly competitive next-generation applications."

The X5000A4 is a three-phase rectifier with 93% efficiency. It delivers 5,800 watts in a 2RU-high form factor for a power density of 20 watts per cubic inch.

In addition to increased safety, the rectifier's wide input range is a significant operational advantage as it frees carriers from stocking multiple rectifiers for their CO applications.

"Customers have found this product ideal for CO power system upgrades because many of those systems have been built over decades and have differing inputs which this rectifier addresses in an elegant and operationally efficient way," said Rick Barnett, the chief design engineer for the X5000A4.

The Scalable Power System is designed around half-width (12") power bays taking up half the floor space of a traditional power enclosure, and each power bay can support up to 15 X5000 rectifiers.

This ultra-dense power bay features system distribution cabinets that are an extra-wide 36", allowing for dramatically simplified battery and load wiring. The distribution cabinet also has a modular design to quickly accept up to 48 distribution attachments, giving carriers the ability to simply mix and match fuses and circuit breakers Circuit breakers
