Why do I snore at night?

Dear Monique:

Snoring is often caused by the vibration of the soft tissues at the back of the throat. It's likely that you breathe through your mouth as you sleep. This sends air rushing through narrow airways in your throat and causes you to snore.

Other causes include large adenoids or tonsils, allergies, blocked nasal passages from a common cold, or smoking.

A simple solution might be to sleep on your side or on your stomach. If you snore all the time, you should consult your doctor.
