Why May day?

May 1 is the date for the "Great American Boycott The Great American Boycott (known in Spanish as El Gran Paro Estadounidense, "the Great American Strike") was a one-day boycott of United States schools and businesses by immigrants, both legal and non-legal, of mostly Latin American origin that took place on May 1,  of 2006" calling for the legalization LEGALIZATION. The act of making lawful.

of millions of illegal aliens. Couldn't a better date have been chosen--one not tainted with the image of communist May Day celebrations from Moscow to Havana? "On May 1, the world working class displays its strength in demonstrations and strikes," explains communist writer Andy McInerney in the Spring 1996 issue of Liberation & Marxism. "May Day--International Workers' Day--is a reminder to the ruling classes that their days are numbered.... From 1919 onward, the success of May Day in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  would depend on the success of the communist movement."

Though most of the "Great American Boycott" demonstrators would not see themselves marching in solidarity with the communists, the same would not apply to some of the boycott organizers and promoters. The Andy McInerney quoted above writes for the International Action Center and International A.N.S.W.E.R. (Act Now to Stop War & End Racism), two of the most active coalitions promoting the May 1 marches. He is also a staff writer for Workers World, the newspaper of the hardcore communist Workers World Party Workers World Party (WWP) is a communist party in the United States founded in 1959 by Sam Marcy.[1] Marcy and his followers split from the Socialist Workers Party in 1958 over a series of long-standing differences, among them Marcy's group's support for Henry A. .

Brian Becker, the national coordinator of A.N.S.W.E.R. and one of the official organizers of the May 1 events, is also a member of the secretariat of the Workers World Party.

Another May 1 boycott leader is Macrina Cardenas, who works closely with Becker and McInerney at A.N.S.W.E.R., while also heading Mexicans Without Borders According to Marcrina Cardinas: "Mexicans Without Borders (Mexicanos Sin Fronteras) is an organization that arose out of the need for migrant workers to struggle against the various injustices that they face in their daily lives.  and the Mexican Solidarity Network (MSN (1) (MicroSoft Network) A family of Internet-based services from Microsoft, which includes a search engine, e-mail (Hotmail), instant messaging (Windows Live Messaging) and a general-purpose portal with news, information and shopping (MSN Directory). ). She also works closely with the communist Zapatistas (or EZLN EZLN Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional (Zapatista Army of National Liberation, Chiapas, Mexico) ) of Mexico. Cardenas' MSN announced that on May 1 she would be leading--together with EZLN chief, Sub-comandante Marcos--"an explicitly anti-capitalist movement" on both sides of the border. While some Hispanic reformers "want to emphasize immigrants' participation in the 'American dream'," Cardenas and the MSN cadres say they "see this as an important moment in the anti-capitalist struggle for worker rights and emphasize the 'reserve army' role that most migrant workers assume within the neo-liberal capitalist system."

Of course, information of this type sounds silly to many Americans who have been led to believe that communism is dead.
