Why Beautiful People Have More Daughters.

WHY BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE HAVE MORE DAUGHTERS

ALAN S. MILLER AND SATOSHI KANAZAWA Dr. Satoshi Kanazawa is an evolutionary psychologist at the London School of Economics. His research uses evolutionary psychology to analyze social sciences such as sociology, economics, and anthropology.

Ever wonder why people act the way they do? The question remains one of life's mysteries, and for good reason. Although scientists have paid great attention to the way in which learning and the environment shape human nature, mainline mainline Drug slang verb To inject a drug  research has sidestepped an examination of how evolution has formed human behavior. Much of this reluctance, Miller and Kanazawa Kanazawa (kä'nä`zäwä), city (1990 pop. 442,868), capital of Ishikawa prefecture, central Honshu, Japan, on the Sea of Japan. It produces cotton and silk textiles, machinery, fine porcelain and lacquer ware, rolling stock, and iron.  propose, stems from a fear of suggesting that some of people's less-than-flattering tendencies are innate. In a question-and-answer format, the authors examine several of these tendencies. For example: Why are women better at child care? Why are most violent criminals men? The authors even take on the origins of religion. They answer each question from an evolutionary biologist's perspective, offering evidence that many of our behaviors served adaptive purposes and that human evolution has not kept pace with other developments in the world. Miller and Kanazawa provide a new take on the nature-versus-nurture debate. Perigee, 2007, 252 p., hardcover, $23.95.
