Who wielded this weapon?

Last year while working on the Fall 2005 Gazette, I happened to be formatting an article about Ralph Morden on the same day that I received an e-mail from a Christopher Morden, who is a member of a travel group to which I belong. I wrote to him in Iceland, "You may think me silly for asking this, but would you be related to Ralph Morden, a Loyalist supporter, hanged during the Revolutionary War?"

He wrote back: "I think I may be. My uncle, Palmer Morden, has been having some genealogical research done on the Green side of my father's family (their mother was a Green). My sister who lives in London, Ontario, has a sword that belonged to some Morden who was in the military back in the 1700s."

So I looked up Christopher's sister and visited her to take photos of this mysterious weapon. Can you cast any light on the mystery and history of this sword?
