Who is Orlando's Iron Chef?

Stay Tuned for "Battle of the Parks" a Charity Wine and Food Celebration

Three Chefs + Three Sommeliers = Three Charities

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Who has the top chef, College Park, Thornton Park or Winter Park? On January 21, three of Orlando's finest restaurants present the first annual Battle of the Parks. A Chef and Sommelier team from K-Restaurant (College Park), The Beacon (Thornton Park) and Luma on Park (Winter Park) will battle to see whose "park" reigns supreme. The event promises to cook up a good time, as each team strives to present the best food and wine pairings in this friendly competition.

First on the menu for the day is the starter - food and wine pairing stations where attendees will sample each chef's creations that strive to match several wines from the heralded wine appellations of Central and Northern California. Participating wineries from the Sonoma, Monterey, Santa Barbara and Mendocino regions include Matanzas Creek Winery, La Crema Winery, Stonestreet Alexander Mountain Estate, Cambria Estate Winery, Carmel Road Winery, Edmeades and more. Following this pairing, the sommeliers will be pitted against each other in a blind tasting, in the "Battle of the Palates." Guests will also have the same opportunity to taste the wines blind. Finally, it's on to the main event where each restaurant's chef will have 40 minutes to transform the secret ingredients into a plated entree for a panel of celebrity judges. The creations will be judged in three categories; flavor, presentation and creativity to determine the winning combination. A separate award will be presented based on the audience's favorites from the themed food & wine pairing stations.

The Chef and Sommelier teams are: K- Restaurant: Kevin Fonzo (Chef/Owner) and Dan Francoforte (Sommelier) The Beacon: Laird Boles (Executive Chef) and Shanon Hall (Sommelier) Luma on Park: Brandon McGlamery (Executive Chef) and Brian Hubbell (Sommelier).

Assisting with the judging are John Blazon, Master Sommelier and Manager, Wine Sales and Standards of Walt Disney Resort; Josh Garrick, Managing Editor of Lifestyle Magazine; George Miliotes, Advanced Sommelier from Season's 52; Pam Smith, culinary author and Epcot Food and Wine Culinary Consultant. Adding spice and flavor to the event is the Mistress of Ceremonies, Jacqueline London of Local 6 WKMG.

Bring your taste buds and your checkbooks for charity, as an amazing silent auction will also be offered. Proceeds from this gourmet affair will benefit the participating restaurants charity of choice; Hope and Help (K- Restaurant), Lighthouse Central Florida (the Beacon) and the Coastal Conservation Society (Luma on Park).

Battle of the Parks will take place at 2:00 pm on Sunday January 21, 2007 at the Beacon. The Beacon is located in Thornton Park at 100 S. Eola Drive (corner of Pine and Eola) in Orlando. Tickets are $30.00 per person and are available at each of the participating restaurants.
