Who Will Cry for the Little Boy?

Antwone Fisher's story is one we should all learn; his will and passion, something we should all emulate. It speaks of redemption and a spirit of perseverance--both qualities that are in no short supply in the black community, yet attributes that we can never have enough. Unfortunately, the collection Who Will Cry for the Little Boy? is one as facile as it is saccharine sac·cha·rine

Fisher's poems read like those of a poet who has never read poetry, an idea as ludicrous as having a professional ballplayer who has never or seldom watched the game's greats. I firmly believe that everyone should write. However, not all work is publishable.

Read the memoir. Go see the movie. Antwone Fisher's story is important. Leave the poetry collection on the shelves.
