Insignia/ESG announced that Theodore P. Sasso, Jr., the firm's senior managing director, has been named to the Route 110 Redevelopment Corporation.

Sasso has been involved in both tenant and owner representation assignments during his more than 30 years in commercial real estate. Among client representation assignments include J.C. Penney, Nikon and State Insurance Fund.

A graduate of Hofstra University, Sasso has served as faculty member and lecturer. He is past chairman of the board of directors of the Real Estate Practitioner's Institute and serves as an adjunct professor for the Long Island University real estate program. He is a member of the Long Island Association, the Real Estate Board of New York, and the Suburban Conditions Committee. He is co-chairman of the Long Island Business Development Council and treasurer of the Hempstead Industrial Development Agency. He is also a trustee of the Incorporated Village of Brookville, where he serves as deputy police commissioner and chairman of the ethics committee.

Rosen Johnson Architects, PC announced that Heather Pitzen will head its interior design department.

Most recently, Pitzen worked as an independent consultant for a variety of corporate, healthcare and residential clients, applying her skills in a range of design disciplines including space planning, interior finish and furniture selection, and construction administration. She began her career with Karlsberger Architects and worked with leading clients on a diverse range of projects. She was an instrumental member of teams that completed work for major hospitals, including St. Vincent's Hospital and the network of Catholic medical centers in New York City.

Prior to this, Pitzen held a leading role in Formica Corporation's specification department where she helped market new surface materials targeted at the architectural and design industry. A textile expert, she has also handled product specification for EiAL Interior Resource and Unika Vaev Textiles. A graduate of Bowling Green State University, Pitzen resides in Manhattan.

O'Dea, Lynch, Abbattlsta Consulting Engineers announcedd the addition of Lyle R. Shute as a senior mechanical engineer in its New York office. A resident of Chester, Shute holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Clarkson University. He is currently pursuing a graduate degree in business from Iona College in New Rochelle. Prior to joining the firm, Shute worked as a senior engineer for McGoey, Hauser & Edsall Consulting Engineers. He is a registered professional engineer in both New York and Pennsylvania.

Newmark & Company Real Estate, Inc. has hired David K. Anderson as a director, announced chief executive officer Barry Gosin.

Prior to joining Newmark, Anderson served as director of promotional brokerage for Colliers ABR in New York and, at the same time, as the senior vice president of the corporate services group at Colliers International based in Boston. During his 13 years in the commercial real estate industry, Anderson has represented clients such as Mercedes Benz (USA), Banespa Bank, and AdForce, among others. Recently, he represented Petro Fuel in a lease renewal and expansion negotiation. In the areas of corporate services and consulting, Anderson has developed short- and long-term real estate strategies for national and international corporate clients, provided due diligence services and advised on mergers and acquisitions.

Anderson is a member of the Real Estate Board of New York and the Building Owners Management Association. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in business administration from Franklin Pierce College.

Newmark of Long Island LLC announced that Ada L. Hasloecher, Michael Ventre, and Leslie S. Raphan have joined the firm. The trio will take on leasing, management, and sales assignment responsibilities on behalf of Newmark's clients based in Long Island and nationally.

Serving as an associate director, Hasloecher will concentrate on the company's commercial leasing segment. She began her real estate career in 1984 with the Lerner Organization and, prior to joining Newmark of Long Island, was a real estate broker with Prudential Long Island Commercial Real Estate. Joining Newmark of Long Island as an associate, Ventre will be working closely with Hasioecher in the commercial leasing department. Ventre earned a degree in business management and is a licensed real estate salesperson.

Bringing more than 12 years of retail real estate experience, Raphan will serve as an associate director in the firm's retail division. During his career he has negotiated numerous retail leases and managed properties throughout Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties. He began his real estate career in 1988, managing a portfolio of family-owned retail properties. In that capacity, he built relationships with banks, architects, contractors, and retail tenants.

The Schultz Organization/TCN Worldwide announced the appointment of Jon Horn of as an associate in the firm's brokerage services division. Horn specializes in the office sector. He is a graduate of New York University and has extensively studied urban renewal issues. He has also been active in Habitat for Humanity and the Union Square Alliance.

James Lester has joined Insignia/ESG as a senior managing director, announced Patrick Murphy, executive director of Insignia/ESG's Saddle Brook office.

During the course of his 25-year career in commercial real estate, Lester has acted as consultant, broker and agent to a wide variety of corporations, asset groups and landlords in the New York Metropolitan area. Prior to joining the company, Lester was vice president of marketing for SJP Properties where he directed property marketing and leasing efforts.

From 1981 to 1997, Lester was manager of real estate services for AT&T and Lucent Technologies where he consummated more than 20 million SF of lease and asset acquisition and disposition assignments on behalf of the companies. Some of his most recent transactions include a 62,000 SF lease for Siemens Credit in Bridgewater, NJ, and a 40,000 SF lease for KPMG Peat Marwick in Liberty Corner, NJ.

Lester holds a business degree from Pace University, and is a decorated Vietnam veteran, earning both the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for valor.

Goldman and Company of N.J., Inc. announce that Peter Totter has been named assistant vice president.

The real estate advisory services group of Ernst & Young LLP announced that Mark A. Smith has been named as head of its global corporate real estate advisory services practice.

Smith, who has been with Ernst & Young since 1994, holds a Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Texas. In recent years he has headed the real estate advisory services group's West Coast practice and served as national director of construction advisory services for the firm, working with clients like Intel, Sun Microsystems, Bank of America, and Cisco.

Steven D. Leader, president of LEADER Realty Advisors, Ltd. announced his election as trustee to the board of the International Real Property Foundation of the National Association of Realtors. As president of LEADER Realty Advisors, Leader has been increasingly active in real estate counseling in the international arena, particularly in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Gregory J. Beck has been appointed director of brand strategies for international interior architecture firm IA.

Beck's first project for IA is leading the team responsible for the design and execution of five facilities for Stevens Aviation. Beck, whose previous experience includes a job as director of architecture and entertainment design for Sony Technologies, was responsible for Sony's METREON Urban Entertainment Center in San Francisco, Sony MOVIEGLIDE Theatre, and the $1 million upgrade of SONY WONDER, the educational technology lab in midtown Manhattan.

Beck also served as the principal architect for the Massachusetts-based Trumbull Company, Inc. from 1992 to 1994, and has recently worked in New York City on such environmental design projects as TimeLife's InsidePEOPLE, the NASDAQ MarketSite Experience and 4 Times Square.

Beck holds an M.S. in urban design from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology School of Architecture and Planning. He has been an instructor at the school and at Harvard Graduate School of Design.

Cushman & Wakefield announced that Maureen and Frank P. Liantonio received the American Cancer Society Humanitarian Award for 2001 on June 14.

Frank Liantonio is an executive managing director at Cushman & Wakefield. He has been a member of the North Hempstead Unit of the American Cancer Society for more than 25 years and serves on its board of directors. In 1994 he was named Volunteer of the Year. He is a licensed New York State real estate broker and a member of the Urban Land Institute.

He currently sits on the Institute's retail and commercial development council. He also sits on the board of directors of eProperty Tax, LLC. He received his B.A. in economics from Marist College.

Maureen Liantonio has been a member of the North Hempstead Unit for 15 years and has become active in the Garden City Unit of the American Cancer Society. She was a committee member of the Phantom Ball in 2000 and is its co-chairperson in 2001. Prior to this, she was president of the alumni executive council of St. Vincent Ferrer High School in Manhattan.

She worked for the parish of Trinity Church for 20 years as manager of parish financial services. She received a B.A. in psychology from Mercy College and an M.S. in special education from the College of New Rochelle. She was also a post graduate student at Pace University.
