While traveling west out of Greeley, Colorado The City of Greeley is a home rule municipality in Weld County, Colorado, United States. According to 2006 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 87,596.[4] , Deputy Bill Esch of the Weld County, Colorado Weld County is the third most extensive and the ninth most populous of the 64 counties of the State of Colorado of the United States. The United States Census Bureau estimates that the county population was 236,857 in 2006, a 30.91% increase since U.S. Census 2000. , Sheriffs Office received a report of a possible drunk driver. Locating the vehicle, Deputy Esch attempted to make a traffic contact when the vehicle, traveling almost 80 mph, ran off the road. Fire engulfed the vehicle and trapped the driver inside. Deputy Esch used a fire extinguisher fire extinguisher: see fire fighting.  to put out the flames in the cab, but was unable to open either door.  of the Greeley, Colorado, Police Department arrived. Officer Bratton kept the flames at bay with a fire extinguisher while Deputy Esch and Officer Young pulled the driver from the vehicle. The driver suffered second- and third-degree burns on 10 percent of his upper body and face. Deputy Esch and Officers Bratton and Young exhibited bravery and a willingness to put their lives in danger and subsequently saved the life of the driver.
