Where I'm From (excerpts).

WHERE I'M FROM (excerpts)

I am from the sounds and sayings of my mother.
from "wake up, it's time for school!", "No April I can't afford
a cellphone!" and "Ask your dad for it!"
I am from the constant roar of the engine and breeze in my face.
From the backseat gripping Rene's ... back as he takes me out for a
   ride on his motorcycle....
I am from the back of a red Ford, wandering the stalks of com and
dirt roads with my cousins Natalia and Laura....
I am from the hot, sweaty days and the cool, dark nights of the
   Dominican Republic.
