Where Hurricanes struck home.


A record 24 tropical storms--13 of which became hurricanes--originated over the Atlantic Ocean Atlantic Ocean [Lat.,=of Atlas], second largest ocean (c.31,800,000 sq mi/82,362,000 sq km; c.36,000,000 sq mi/93,240,000 sq km with marginal seas). Physical Geography

 this year. (The previous record was 21, set in 1933.) Not all of the storms struck land, but many that did inflicted considerable damage. This map shows areas hit by hurricanes in 2005. The symbols show areas hardest hit, not the number of hurricanes. (A single hurricane often strikes several locations.) Study it, then answer the following questions.
