) and the Paper, Allied Industrial, Chemical and Energy Workers International (PACE) have voted unanimously to merge.

The new union will be called the United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied-Industrial and Service Workers International Union with an active membership of more than 850,000 in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. , Canada and the Caribbean headed by Sudbury native Leo Gerard Leo W. Gerard (b. 1947) is a steelworker, Canadian and American labor leader. He was elected president of the United Steelworkers (USW) in 2001, becoming the second Canadian to head the union. He is also a vice president of the AFL-CIO. .
