Bei Dao (Traditional Chinese: 北島; Simplified Chinese: 北岛 , the piece debuts May 6-7 at the John Jay College Theater and features music by Joan La Barbara Joan La Barbara (born June 8, 1947 in Philadelphia, PA) is an American vocalist and composer associated with contemporary music. She is a former student of Helen Boatwright. and Ne(x)tworks and set design by Myung Hee Cho. Chen's company of 10 dancers, who hail from Malaysia to Israel, also presents two repertory pieces. Raindrops, a playful, rhythmic tribute to rainy Taiwanese days, is set to a collage of sounds from Tibet, South America South America, fourth largest continent (1991 est. pop. 299,150,000), c.6,880,000 sq mi (17,819,000 sq km), the southern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. and Tuva.
