What is a PORTFOLIO DAY?

The key to actualizing one's dreams is training--and this means education. , National Portfolio Day provides a forum to discuss one of the key elements in any application for admission: the artist's portfolio.

Students often ask, what is a portfolio, and why is so much attention given to it? The portfolio is essentially the resume of an artist. It shows, by example, how you express yourself creatively. Throughout your career, from student to professional, the portfolio will be a critical element in the presentation of your work.

If you attend Portfolio Day, there are several important things you should know beforehand. First of all, you'll you'll

be meeting with representatives that include faculty members, admission directors, and occasionally alumni. You might want to prepare a list of questions in advance. You will receive feedback from a wide selection of schools located in many different cities.

You should bring sketchbooks, slides, and other original artwork. If you wish, you will receive a critique of your work, as well as information about curricula, majors, and requirements for admission. Additionally, Portfolio Day provides an excellent opportunity to learn about financial aid and scholarships and how you can apply.

Remember, this is not an interview for admission, and you are not competing with the other students. A Portfolio Day is essentially a time to get acquainted with possible schools, and for the schools to get acquainted with you.

All members of NPDA are four-year, fully accredited accredited
