What goes up ...

The Dow Jones industrial average Dow Jones Industrial Average

hit record heights last week, mostly on news of falling oil prices. Many experts feel that there will be a slide. So the Business Journal asks:

Where do you think the market is heading?

I think it's going to continue to go up, all the economic indicators Economic indicators

The key statistics of the economy that reveal the direction the economy is heading in; for example, the unemployment rate and the inflation rate.
currently in the economy--unemployment, housing starts--are up, so I have no reason to believe there's going to be any decrease. Gas prices are down. The stocks I own are going up. But it certainly helps in business and in real estate, both commercial and domestic.

While the recent market rally that has brought the Dow to all-time highs certainly has positively impacted the value of my personal portfolio, it has not affected my investment strategy or timing in any fashion. I follow a strategy of balanced investment between equities, debt and cash that generally reflects the overall U.S. capitalization capitalization n. 1) the act of counting anticipated earnings and expenses as capital assets (property, equipment, fixtures) for accounting purposes. 2) the amount of anticipated net earnings which hypothetically can be used for conversion into capital assets. , using low-cost index fund products. I also never try to time the market, because I do not believe in the efficacy of attempting to make long term investments based on short-term gains Short-term gain (or loss)

It's great that it has gone up. It's certainly not going to sustain itself if oil prices climb or if the housing market slows down. I think those are the two key elements. In terms of how it's affected me, the fact that it's gone up has not affected my investing at all. I have a long-range strategy and I'm just plodding along with that.

It has affected my personal investments--some positive, some negative. Most of all I'm happy to see the easing in oil prices. Overall my worries about inflation have been lessened less·en

I would say the more important thing for investors to look at is the S&P 500, it's a better indicator of what the overall market is doing, and it's still 13 percent below its all-time high. Investors would be better served to take a look at that.

I actually do think it's going to continue on an upward spike. What's more concerning to me is if it does keep spiking what the eventual drop is going to do. I'm not rushing out to buy--I am very conservative with my investments.

I'd like to think it's going to continue to rise. I think the housing market is really going to play a large role in what's going to happen over the next six months. I've been trying to stick with the large cap stocks. I've learned not to look at it too often because it'll just drive you crazy.
