The Sergeant's Program Celebrates It's Ten Year Anniversary

with a Pike's Peak 10K Race in Rockville, Maryland 

The Sergeant's Program, the military-style fitness and exercise program headed by Patrick "The Sarge" Avon, is celebrating its ten year anniversary with a 10K race down Rockville Pike on Sunday, April 30.

Thousands are expected to turn out for the run, including hundreds of Sergeant's Program participants. The Sergeant's Program is also a premier sponsor of the race, which begins at 8 am at the Shady Grove Metro station and ends at White Flint Mall.

The nationally recognized Sergeant's Program (TSP) has helped thousands of flabby, fatigued, and stressed-out civilians get in peak physical and mental condition with its no nonsense fitness regimen. The program's drills have been adopted by the country's hottest health clubs, from New York's Reebok Club to L.A.'s Sports Club.

Headquartered in Rockville, MD, the program has regional offices in Philadelphia and Chicago.

Upon completion of the race, runners will pass through two Hummers guarding the Chow Hall tent for a military style breakfast.. The tent will be decorated in MASH 4077 style with loud speakers, USO 40's music, sand bags, army mesh and good ol' (upgraded) military chow served by Silver Diner.

TSP was founded in 1989 and currently has close to 1,000 clients in the Washington and Chicago regions. President Patrick Avon, a former Naval fitness instructor, designed the program with the philosophy that toughness and discipline break bad habits.

Nationally recognized as one of the country's premier fitness programs, it has been featured on NBC Nightly News and Inside Edition, as well as in People magazine, Newsweek, The Washington Post, Men's Health, Self and dozens of other publications.

The program begins with a three-week "Boot Camp" course designed to give recruits the self-discipline and confidence necessary to keep up with the future exercise and nutrition programs. TSP also offers an ongoing monthly maintenance program, as well as personal training sessions. About half of program's clients are women.

He is currently working on a women's fitness book to be released Summer 2001.
