* African Union African Union (AU), international organization established in 2002 by the nations of the former Organization of African Unity (OAU). The AU is the successor organization to the OAU, with greater powers to promote African economic, social, and political integration,  and the Optional Protocol on Human and Peoples' Rights on the Rights of African Women

FEMNET's advocacy programme has been involved with the ongoing elaboration of the Optional Protocol on African Women's Human Rights to the Afdcan Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights and in regional consultations for a cohesive response by African women to the Optional Protocol.

* New Partnership for Africa's Development New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) is an economic development program of the African Union. * African Women's Access to and Control over Land

FEMNET has just completed editing research and analysis from cultural, religious and human rights perspectives on issues relating to relating to relate prepconcernant

 women and land. This research was carried out in seven African countries--Ethiopia, Cameroon, Mozambique, Rwanda, Nigeria, Senegal and Uganda. The research is being published in a book by Zed Publishers in October 2002.

FEMNET is working on the production of an analysis of the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper formulation process in Africa, with lessons learnt, to strengthen civil society's capacity to influence the budget in support of alleviating poverty of African women. FEMNET will also document the experiences of gender lobbies in the PRSP process and will provide an analysis of women's poverty in direct relationship to the national macroeconomic mac·ro·ec·o·nom·ics

* Men against Gender Based Violence

). The aim of the project is to create a core group of male supporters to advocate for the elimination of GBV in Africa. The project activities are seeking to establish an active pan-African network of male advocates for GBV- free societies, by mobilising committed men in the struggle to combat GBV. FEMNET will be conducting a review of the existing men against GBV groups in South Africa South Africa, Afrikaans Suid-Afrika, officially Republic of South Africa, republic (2005 est. pop. 44,344,000), 471,442 sq mi (1,221,037 sq km), S Africa. , Malawi, Kenya, Namibia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, and Sudan. * Gender Mainstreaming

FEMNET has updated its model for training of trainers in gender mainstreaming. The training programme targets civil society, governments and intergovernmental representatives involved in gender mainstreaming and/or in communicating this work to wider audiences

* Participatory Communications for Social Change, Nairobi, November 2002

FEMNET in partnership with the Association of Progressive Communicators (APC Africa Women), Inter Press Service Inter Press Service (abbreviated: IPS) is a global news agency. Its main focus is the production of independent news and analysis about events and processes affecting economic, social and political development.  (IPS) and the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters Africa (AMARC-Africa) will run this workshop. The East African workshop, the first of a series for all of East Africa, to be followed by Southern and West Africa, will seek to exemplify the use of participatory communications for advocacy to advance the concerns and solutions of African women. The workshop shall cover participatory communications techniques for print, radio, video and NICTs.

* New FEMNET Publications

FEMNET has a new online publication FEMNET Updates and Notices. This is a monthly email update on events, training opportunities and vacancies. FEMNET is also in the process of constructing a new website, which will be launched in November 2002.

), dont le but est de creer un groupe principal d'hommes supporters pour militer en faveur de l'elimination de la violence fondee sur le sexe en Afrique.

Les activites de ce projet visent a etablir un reseau ré·seau or re·seau

FEMNET conduira une revision de groupes d'hommes actuellement engages dans ce travail dans les pays suivants : Afrique du Sud, Malawi, Kenya, Namible, Guinee, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Zambie, Zimbabwe, Ethiopie et Soudan. Le but vise est de documenter les groupes qui existent deja. Les groupes qui seront identifies participeront aux ateliers de sensibilisation sur le genre, qui seront aussi conduits dans les quatre pays.

* Recentrage de Genre

FEMNET a mis a jour son modele de formation de formateurs en matiere de recentrage de gente. Ce programme de formation vise la societe civile et les representants gouvernementaux et intergouvernementaux, impliques dans le recentrage de gente et/ou dans la communication de ce travail aux plus larges audiences.

* Communications Participatives pour le Changement Social : Novembre 2002

Le Reseau de Developpement et de Communications de la Femme Africaine (FEMNET) organise cet atelier en collaboration avec I'Association pour le Developpement des Femmes (APC Africa Women), Inter Press Services (IPS), et World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters Africa ([L'Association Mondiale des Emetteurs de la Radio Communautaire], AMARC--Africa) et Maneno Mengi. La premiere partie de cet atelier se deroulera en Afrique de l'Est, qui sera suivie par l'Afrique du Sud et de l'Ouest; visera a exemplifier l'utilisation de communications participatives dans le cadre du plaidoyer dans le but d'avancer des preoccupations et des solutions exprimees par des femmes africaines. L'atelier couvrira les techniques de communication pour la radio, la video, la presse et les Nouvelles Techniques de I'Information et de la Communication.
