Gov. Ted Kulongoski Theodore R. "Ted" Kulongoski (born November 5 1940, in rural Missouri[1]) is an American Democratic politician. Since 2003, he has served as the Governor of Oregon. He was re-elected in 2006.  introduced Westlund at his Capitol announcement.

The Democratic governor called Westlund a friend and ally whose work on behalf of health care reform and the establishment of Oregon's Cultural Trust made him the best guy for the job.

Of course, the governor joked, it was an endorsement made easier by the fact that Westlund is the only one running for the statewide office in next year's election. But he told reporters he would back Westlund's candidacy, regardless whether other candidates surface.

Westlund is a successful businessman who came into the Legislature a decade ago as a Republican. He dropped his party affiliation to run for governor in 2006 as an independent. He cut that bid short, avoiding the potential role as spoiler spoiler: see airplane.

`But my issues have become statewide issues,' he said, explaining his decision to give up his Central Oregon district to run for a state office.

Westlund vowed to carry on the practice of sound fiscal management of the $66 billion in state-held investments overseen by the treasurer and an appointed Oregon Investment Council.
