The Bureau of Land Management and the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department hosted numerous events in September for National Public Lands Day. The Eat Right Montana Coalition has developed a series of packets on eating well and being active, full of positive information for health communicators, busy families and the media. Steve Baysinger has been appointed as community and neighborhood services director for Olathe, Kan. He will lead the Recreation, Housing and Transportation, Parks and Grounds, and Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity Divisions. Prior to his selection in Olathe, Baysinger served as parks and recreation director in Louisville, Colo. While working in Louisville, he was elected president of the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association and representative to NRPA's Midwest Regional Council. Under Baysinger's guidance, Louisville earned the National Gold Medal, which recognizes excellence in parks and recreation management. In Olathe, Baysinger will be charged with implementing Olathe's master plan. The plan served as the impetus for Olathe to pass a 1/8 cent sales tax sales tax, levy on the sale of goods or services, generally calculated as a percentage of the selling price, and sometimes called a purchase tax. It is usually collected in the form of an extra charge by the retailer, who remits the tax to the government.  for specific parks and recreation capital projects.
