Fifty youth from primarily low-income neighborhoods participated in Houston's first Sprockids Clinic, and they came away smiling. It is located along the Gulf Coast region in the U.S. state of Texas.  Off Road Biking Association, Houston Parks and Recreation, and the National Park Service initiated the event as an outreach tool to introduce kids and their parents to the planned Hill at Sims Greenway. The NRPA Combined MW/SW Regional Leadership and Professional Training Institute was held in Pueblo, Colo., in April. In cooperation with Pueblo Parks and Recreation Department and Colorado Parks and Recreation Association, the Institute serviced the 11 states in the Western Region. For the first time, a Small Communities Pre-Institute and Student Conference were included. NRPA President Jonathan Korfhage, CPRP, was a speaker at the Institute.

In August, the 28th National Park Maintenance and Resource Management School will be held in Colorado Springs Colorado Springs, city (1990 pop. 281,140), seat of El Paso co., central Colo., on Monument and Fountain creeks, at the foot of Pikes Peak; inc. 1886. It is a year-round resort and a booming military, technological, and commercial city. , Colo., with the 10th National Playground Safety Institute Course and Exam to follow in the same week. Topics not only related to park planning but also issues related to managing risk and market analysis will be covered. , President-Elect Kari Happold and Legislative Chair Ken Walter met with Nebraska's senators, representatives and staff members during the NRPA Legislative Forum on Parks and Recreation in Washington, D.C. Key areas of concern were support for the Land and Water Conservation Fund The United States' Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) is a Federal program that was established by Act of Congress in 1965. The Act designated that a portion of receipts from offshore oil and gas leases[1] , reauthorizing the Transportation Equity Act, and the Child Nutrition Act The Child Nutrition Act (CNA) is a United States federal law signed on October 11, 1966 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. The Act was created as a result of the "years of cumulative successful experience under the National School Lunch Program" to help meet the nutritional , and the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act. Face-to-face meetings like these are the most successful way to educate legislators about community needs in their districts.
