** California is the number one agricultural producer and exporter. With gross cash income of $27.6 billion, California agriculture production is nearly twice that of second-place Texas.

** California exports 14 percent of its production, annually shipping more than $6.5 billion in agriculture commodities.

WASHINGTON

** In recent years, apples have overtaken wheat and dairy products as the state's leading commodity.

** Nearly half of the nation's apple crop is produced in Washington.

** Washington ranks among the top 10 states for 36 separate commodities and leads the nation in production of hops, spearmint oil, lentils, dry edible peas, wrinkled seed peas, apples, Concord grapes, pears, sweet cherries, carrots for processing, sweet corn for processing, and red raspberries.
