Western Australia Opens for Business in the U.S. With Its First Trade and Investment Office and the Establishment of the California-Western Australia Business Forum.


LOS ANGELES Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  -- Western Australia's first Trade and Investment Office in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  is open for business, following the November 16th launch in Los Angeles.

The new office will enable Western Australian businesses to capitalize on the Australia-United States Free Trade Agreement The Australia-United States Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is a preferential trade agreement between Australia and the United States of America modelled on the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The FTA was signed on May 18, 2004, ratified by the U.S.  and the ensuing broadening of bilateral trade.

Prior to the launch, Western Australian State Development Minister Alan Carpenter and California Lieutenant Governor Cruz M. It expresses a convergence of will between the parties, indicating an intended common line of action and may not imply a legal commitment.  between the California Commission for Economic Development The California Commission for Economic Development[1] (CED) was established by statute in 1971 to serve as a bipartisan advisory board on economic development issues to the executive and legislative leadership of the State of California. , of which Bustamante is the chair, and the State Government of Western Australia, establishing the California-Western Australia Business Forum.

"The establishment of the new Business Forum provides great opportunities for advancing trade and investments and building and diversifying the state's export markets in the U.S., beginning with California," said Carpenter.

"We expect this mission to produce tangible results in terms of strengthening ties with our trading partners and negotiations for the purchase of California goods, services and agricultural commodities," said Bustamante.

The Western Australia Trade and Investment Office, headed by Regional Director David Doepel, is located in the Howard Hughes Center at 6080 Center Drive, 6th Floor, Los Angeles, CA 90045.
