West Virginia schoolgirl saves grandmother.

Danyelle Kinser, a first-grade student at Lashmeet-Matoaka School in Mercer County, West Virginia, was riding with her grandmother to her school bus stop on the morning of March 3. Suddenly, her grandmother, Mildred Vickers, lost control of her Chevy Blazer, and the vehicle skidded off the mountain road and rolled over seven or eight times, tumbling down a hill before coming to rest on an old strip-mine site.

"Her granddaughter was showing Mrs. Vickers some things from school when the vehicle ran off the road," Corporal Stan Cary of the Mercer County Sheriff's Department told the Bluefield Daily Telegraph. "Mrs. Vickers couldn't get out of the vehicle, but her granddaughter could."

The police officer told the Daily Telegraph that young Danyelle not only got out of the vehicle, but climbed up a 100-foot embankment to get back to the road, "walked to their nearest neighbor on Cloud View Road, got them to call for help, [and] then went back to stay with her grandmother."

Corporal Cary added: "When I got the call to go out on this accident, I didn't think it would have a happy ending, but this was just such a great story. It made me feel good. The little girl only had a few scratches and bruises on her and she managed to save the life of her grandmother. Just getting to the top of that hill was a terrific feat. She really is a hero."
