West Virginia Motorcycle Safety Program to Begin Statewide Motorcycle Safety Foundation RiderCourses the First Week in April.

 Motorcycle Safety Accident rates
Motorcycles have a far higher fatality rate per unit of distance travelled when compared with automobiles. According to the US Highway Safety Authority, in 2002 20.9 cars out of 100,000 ended up in fatal crashes. The rate for motorcycles is 66.7 per 100,000.
 Program, today announced that Motorcycle Safety Foundation The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) is a United States national, not-for-profit organization sponsored by the U.S. manufacturers and distributors of BMW, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM , Piaggio/Vespa, Suzuki, Triumph, Victory and Yamaha motorcycles.  RiderCourses will begin at seven training sites across the state the first week in April.

"We encourage all riders to get trained," McKeithen said. "By doing so, we believe motorcycle crashes can be reduced in our state."

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation offers training near Beckley, Charleston, Fairmont, Moundsville, Martinsburg, Morgantown, and Parkersburg under contract with the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles.

McKeithen said that additional information on motorcycle training in the state is available by calling the program's toll-free number, 866-355-9399, to get specific site details and to sign up for courses.
