West Contra Costa Healthcare District Names Irwin C. Hansen CEO of Doctors Medical Center.

 Healthcare District (WCCHD WCCHD Williamson County and Cities Health District (Georgetown, TX) ) today announced that hospital transition CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Irwin C. Hansen will serve as the CEO of Doctors Medical Center San Pablo/Pinole when the District assumes control from Tenet Healthcare Tenet Healthcare Corporation (THC) is an operating company that owns and operates 57 hospitals in the United States [1]. It is based in Dallas, Texas. Its stock ticker symbol on the New York Stock Exchange is NYSE: THC.  on August 1.

Since March, Hansen, 61, has been overseeing the transition of the hospital currently being managed by Tenet, a publicly held corporation, to one that will be run by WCCHD, a public agency.

Hansen cited several reasons for staying on to lead the hospital after transition. "The transition process has allowed me to assemble a dynamic, new management team that brings not only energy and enthusiasm but a fresh, new approach to Doctors Medical Center," said Hansen. "Together with the hospital staff and employees, we are dedicated to turning this hospital around." He also acknowledged that public support through the passage of Measure D ($52 annual parcel tax) has allowed the District to seek and obtain $41 million in public financing and loans to keep the hospital open. "I look forward to sustaining and attracting physician partnerships that will help Doctors Medical Center become a hospital that serves all in our community."

Hansen, who has more than 37 years experience in healthcare management, was CEO of Summit Medical Center, Oakland from 1993 to 2001. During that period he successfully completed the merger between Summit and Alta Bates Bates   , Katherine Lee 1859-1929.

Previously, Hansen served as CEO of California Medical Center in Los Angeles, refocusing the hospital's marketing strategy and academic alignments, which led to a financially successful turnaround and market repositioning.

Early in his career, Hansen was CEO of Hinsdale Hospital, Hinsdale, IL, which later became the model for the development of the Adventist Health Systems -North, where Hansen served as founding CEO.
