West Central Division.State presidents from the West Central Division met at the National Summit for MTNA MTNA Music Teachers National Association MTNA Middle Tennessee Nursery Association (McMinnville, Tennessee) Leadership in Cincinnati, September 16-18, 2005. In addition to attending informative sessions on advocacy and generational issues, state leaders were able to meet informally to exchange ideas on subjects of mutual concern. A trip to the North Dakota Badlands and the pitchfork fondue were added highlights. Kansas' fall conference will be October 28-29, 2005, at Southwestern University in Winfield. The theme for this year's conference is "Building the Profession to Ensure Tomorrow's Music." William Chapman Nyaho and commissioned composer Craig Weston will be featured at the conference. A piano extravaganza will be a part of the South Dakota state conference at Northern State University in Aberdeen, November 3-6, 2005. Local associations in the state are organizing ensembles, some with as many as 16 pianists. South Dakota MTA is pleased to be ranked eighth among the states with the highest percentage of nationally certified teachers. Missouri MTA's state conference will also be held November 3-6, 2005, on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus. Ralph Votapek, conference headliner, will present a recital, as well as a master class.
