Welsh lecturer to help develop futuristic robots.A welsh lecturer has been signed up to create the next generation of robots for an international toy company. Dr Torbjorn Dahl, from the University of Wales, Newport The University of Wales, Newport (Welsh: Prifysgol Cymru, Casnewydd) is a university in the city of Newport, South Wales in the United Kingdom. Newport has been involved in higher education for more than 80 years, and the institution's roots go back even further to , is part of a team of 100 robotics experts, set to help Lego develop their latest product, NXT NXT Next . Dr Dahl, who is head of the Intelligent Systems Research Group in the Department of Computing, beat off stiff competition from almost 10,000 people. All members had to sign a non-disclosure agreement A non-disclosure agreement (NDA), also called a confidential disclosure agreement (CDA), confidentiality agreement or secrecy agreement, is a legal contract between at least two parties that outlines confidential materials or knowledge the parties promising to keep the details of Lego's new robot development kit secret until it is released commercially. The selected members were sent a prototype to evaluate and develop further. 'It's a great privilege to be chosen as a programme member as Lego's robotic development kit has been a huge commercial success and is used for education by thousands of schools world-wide,' said Dr Dahl. 'It is a compliment to both my own research efforts and the engineering traditions at the University of Wales, Newport.' |
