WellPoint to expand, purchases WellChoice.


Health insurance giant WellPoint Inc. said it plans to acquire WeilChoice Inc., New York's largest health insurer, in a cash-and-stock purchase valued at $6.5 billion, with the merged company to have more than 33 million medical members as a Blue Cross or Blue Shield Blue Shield A US not-for-profit health care insurer that is a reimbursement intermediary for physicians.
