Welcome to My World.

"Pain and suffering are inevitable, but misery is optional," begins the author as she chronicles Chronicles, two books of the Bible, originally a single work in the Hebrew canon (the final book of that canon), called First and Second Chronicles in the Authorized Version, and called First and Second Paralipomenon in the Septuagint and in the Vulgate.  her experience with MS which has left her quadriplegic quadriplegic /quad·ri·ple·gic/ (-ple´jik)

Since 1982, Mrs. Shuell's educational presentation "Welcome to My World" has helped hundreds of people in the health-care field understand the perspectives of people who are disabled and chronically ill. Essays from these presentations are collected here, on such subjects as using a computer with adaptive equipment Adaptive equipment are devices that are used to assist with completing activities of daily living.

Bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding are self-care activities that are including in the spectrum of activities of daily living (ADLs).

, and aging.

The author sees some essential themes throughout:

* Keep communication open. The more we talk, the more we heal.

* We must have hope. It's a powerful life force that sustains us.

* After a while, let go of the past. The human spirit triumphs when we focus on what is instead of what was.

Collectively this group of essays is uplifting, encouraging, and challenging. I recommend this book.

This is a self-published book, available from the author for $12.95. Send check or money order to 111 Cricket Lane, East Amherst, NY 14051.
