Welch leads Sheldon boys to win on track.


Byline: The Register-Guard

Matt Welch won three events and Jeff Erb, Julian Saaiman and Kyle Richard were double winners to lead host Sheldon to a 110-35 Midwestern League boys track and field victory over Springfield.

Welch's long jump of 21 feet, 7 inches and 42-6 mark in the triple jump, and Saaiman's time of 15.03 seconds in the high hurdles were among the meet's better marks.

Girls track and field

Emmy Greatwood, Heather Spinney and Amanda Bryant were double winners to lead host Sheldon to a 112-29 Midwestern League win over Springfield.

Bryant won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.52 and cleared 9-0 in the pole vault for the Irish.

Boys golf

Jordan Sweet carded a 73 and Scotty Withers shot a 75 to lead Marshfield to a seven-stroke first-day lead over Sheldon in the Gold Coast Classic at the Coos Country Club.

Jesse Schutte shot a 72 to lead Siuslaw to a 24-stroke edge over Marist in a seven-team Sky-Em League meet at Shadow Hills Country Club.
