Weird software.

Forget Comdex, PC Expo, and Demo. If you're on the prowl for really innovative software, check out the second annual Weird Software Competition at the San Diego Computer Fair (Sept. 10-12). The sponsors created the competition to showcase "unusual" products, and they've managed to attract some fascinating stuff. Last year's winners included a screen saver with bungee-jumping cows and a program that helps determine whether your neighbors are secret space aliens.

Says contest coordinator Kevin Leap: "Our motto for '93 is, 'Just do it weird.' We have a feeling the people who are into out-of-the-ordinary software will take that message to heart." Leap says he's already received more than 200 submissions for this year's event, many of which will be available for licensing, bundling, or distribution deals.
