Business Overview

IHOP Corp., incorporated in 1976, develops, operates and franchises, with its subsidiaries, the International House of Pancakes restaurants. As of Dec. 31, 2003, there were 1,165 IHOP restaurants. Franchisees operated 991 of these restaurants, area licensees operated 130 restaurants and IHOP operated 44 restaurants. Franchisees and ares licensees are independent third parties who are licensed by the company to operate their restaurants using IHOP's trademarks, operating systems and methods. IHOP restaurants are located in 48 states and Canada. The restaurants offer pancakes, omelets and other breakfast specialties, as well as lunch, dinner and snack items. They are open throughout the day and evening hours, and many operate 24 hours a day. Franchisees and area licensees operate more than 95 percent of IHOP restaurants.
