Weekly Reader's big anniversary. (Notebook: education information from schools, business, research and professional organizations).


In 1902, journalist Charles Palmer Charles Palmer may refer to:
  • Sir Charles Palmer, 1st Baronet (1822–1907), English shipbuilder, businessman and Liberal Member of Parliament 1874–1907
  • Charles Palmer (cricketer) (1919–2005), English cricker and cricket administrator
 Davis stopped into his daughter's one-room schoolhouse and was appalled to find that only two students knew that William McKinley was the president. So he started publishing Current Events, the first newspaper geared toward middle and high school students.

In May, Current Events will celebrate its 100th anniversary.

The Weekly Reader, as it's now called, reaches more than 11 million children in over 60,000 schools through its 16 different publications.
