Wedgetail 737 gets high marks.
Boeing's 737 airborne early warning and control aircraft for
Australia's project Wedgetail has received a seal of satisfaction
after logging more than 500 flight hours in 245 flights during its
performance and flight handling test programme. The tests validated the
aircraft's digital design, wind tunnel and simulator analyses.
Take-off performance, flight handling and simulated air-to-air
refuelling testing were conducted in California, while the engine
nacelle and component cooling systems were tested in Mesa, Arizona.
Delivery of the first two aircraft is scheduled for some time in 2006
with four further aircraft to follow in 2008. Turkey has purchased four
aircraft for its Peace Eagle programme.
