Webraska, leading provider of personal navigation, traffic information services See Information Systems.  and maps for mobile Internet devices, has received backing from the European Commission's initiative TEN-Telecom. Webraska's project for the deployment of cross-border, European-wide route-guidance services for mobile Internet devices has been selected by TEN-Telecom and awarded a 650.000 EUROS

TEN-Telecom (Trans-European Networks The Trans-European Networks (TEN in EU jargon) were created by the European Union by Articles 154-156 of the Maastricht Treaty (1992), with the stated goals of the creation of an internal market and the reinforcement of economic and social cohesion.  for Telecommunications) is a European Union - Directorate General for Information Society initiative promoting the deployment of trans-European and global telecommunications applications and services. TEN-Telecom selects and funds services which "have beneficial socio-economic consequences for businesses and employment, which broaden information and communication services in areas of general interest, contributing to economic development and social dynamism."

Webraska's services are already commercially available in France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Spain via national mobile telephony operators. They help users find the best route to their destination, inform them of traffic conditions and of travelling time and suggest various means of transport See: mode of transport.  (car, metro, tramway, walking...).

TEN-Telecom is a deployment programme complementing research activities. It encourages the validation of the commercial feasibility of new telecommunications applications and services, and their early investment phase.

A new call for proposals has been launched recently with as deadline 29 January 2001 and a budget of 33.5 MEUR MEUR Million Euros .
