WebTrends Security Analyzer Provides Immediate Detection of Back Orifice 2000; Free Downloadable Trial Version Helps Companies Defend Against New Hacking Tool.

PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 12, 1999--

WebTrends Corporation (Nasdaq:WEBT WEBT Whole Earth Blazar Telescope ), the leader and pioneer in enterprise management, analysis and reporting for E-Business and Internet-based systems, today announced that WebTrends(R) Security Analyzer provides detection capabilities of the Back Orifice 2000 (BO2K (Back Orifice 2000) See Back Orifice. ) program and variants.

BO2K, a hacking tool released July 10 by The Cult of the Dead Cow CULT OF THE DEAD COW, also known as cDc or cDc Communications, is a computer hacker and DIY media organization founded in 1984 in Lubbock, Texas. The group maintains a weblog on its site, also titled "CULT OF THE DEAD COW". , allows an intruder to remotely control Windows 95, 98 or NT computers. Often installed inadvertently by computer users, BO2K provides a back door into their system allowing intruders to view, delete, or modify files, view what is typed at the keyboard (such as passwords), upload and download files, or run potentially malicious programs. WebTrends Security Analyzer is among the first to provide multiple tests for both the client and server of BO2K and variants.

Using the WebTrends AutoSync technology, the Back Orifice 2000 vulnerability tests have been deployed to all current registered and trial WebTrends Security Analyzer customers, allowing them to check for and fix the systems that have BO2K installed. A free trial of the WebTrends Security Analyzer with the BO2K tests is available at http://www.webtrends.com/download/wsa/wtstrial.exe.

"This is a serious security concern for many organizations," said Glen Boyd, President and CTO of WebTrends Corporation. "WebTrends is committed to helping customers protect themselves by detecting potentially damaging vulnerabilities before hackers have the chance to take advantage of them."
