WebMD, Inc., a leading provider of healthcare information on the Internet, today announced that it has agreed to provide comprehensive packages of Internet-based healthcare services to 35 healthcare systems nationwide. The agreements include commitments and established training and enrollment dates for at least 42,000 physicians nationwide for WebMD. As previously announced, WebMD and Healtheon [Nasdaq: HLTH] agreed to merge to form Healtheon/WebMD, the first end-to-end provider of healthcare information and services.

These healthcare systems represent major physician networks associated with some of the most innovative medical institutions in the United States, including Columbia Cornell Care in New York; University of Texas Health Science Center; OhioHealth Group in Columbus, Ohio; Health Choice Network in Memphis, Tennessee; and the American Medical Strategy Organization.

WebMD will work with the physicians' groups and their affiliated hospitals to create Web-based communities of knowledge, providing physicians and administrators - and the patients they serve - with the most up-to-date medical information and services available. The agreements allow WebMD's content to be delivered locally through the participating healthcare providers and extend WebMD's existing global partnerships with MSN, Excite, Lycos, CNN, and Reader's Digest.

The custom packages will give physicians full access to WebMD's network of healthcare services, medical communications and searchable information, resulting in efficient communications and processes and improved patient care. As part of the package, physicians will be able to establish customized practice home pages linked to both WebMD's premium patient healthcare information as well as to affiliated hospital sites, providing them with a valuable practice marketing and patient education tool.

In addition, WebMD's Internet-based suite of products provides authoritative medical information and professional services, such as continuing medical education and credentialing, and will help enhance both business and clinical transactions through online insurance verification and referral eligibility services, online patient lab orders and results, electronic claims submissions and status reports, and access to medical dictation and transcription services. Because WebMD is Internet-based, physicians do not need special software or hardware to use the service. WebMD charges $29.95 to physicians per month for use of this service.

WebMD's consumer content will be co-branded on the Internet site of each of the participating healthcare systems. This access to both physician and consumer sites furthers WebMD's mission to provide connectivity among all key constituents of healthcare and enables patients and doctors to strengthen their connection through shared information and efficient technology.
