Web-Based XML Interface On Horizon.

Dallas-based Pegasus Solutions, Inc., a provider of hotel industry transaction-processing solutions and electronic-commerce services, has announced that it has chosen Marina del Ray-based Event411, Inc. as the launch beta customer for testing its XML XML
 in full Extensible Markup Language.

Markup language developed to be a simplified and more structural version of SGML. It incorporates features of HTML (e.g., hypertext linking), but is designed to overcome some of HTML's limitations.

Tagged "HotelMLTM," Pegasus' XML technology is an emerging standard that some Meetings Industry observers predict may eventually replace AMF AMF ACE (Allied Command, Europe) Mobile Force

Event411 is Pegasus' first customer from the meetings and convention industry to use HotelML for the processing of group reservations. Pegasus is scheduled to begin beta testing (programming) beta testing - Testing a pre-release (potentially unreliable) version of a piece of software by making it available to selected users. This term derives from early 1960s terminology for product cycle checkpoints, first used at IBM but later standard throughout the  HotelML with Event411 in during this first quarter of 2001.

Pegasus will provide Event411 with connectivity to the Pegasus Electronic Distribution Switch for direct access to the central reservations systems of potentially more than 38,000 hotels worldwide. This "real-time" technology will enable Event411's clients to provide meeting attendees with instant availability, reservations and confirmations for hotel room blocks and "shoulder dates."

Utilizing Pegasus' real-time technology, Event411's customers will be able to provide attendees with the ability to receive instant confirmations and reserve additional room dates with ease. Attendees' individual requests will be sent directly to the hotels' CRS CRS Course

Bryan Donowho, senior vice president, Electronic Distribution at Pegasus, XML is expected to enable communication between systems with significantly less customization than the AMF interface currently used today to connect distribution channels to Pegasus' hotel customers. "When our XML interface is completed, it will greatly speed up our implementation of other group systems and third-party Web sites, and interfacing with external customers in general will be easier for us."
