Weapons, explosives seized.

FAIZABAD (PAN): A large quantity of weapons and ammunitions were seized during an operation in northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Monday.

The operation was conducted by Afghan security personnel in Ordowj, Germ, Orgu and Kashm districts, an intelligence official said on condition of anonymity.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News the weapons and ammunitions included four mortars, three machine guns, 227 boxes of bullets and 58 firecrackers. No arrest could be made in connection with the seizure.

Meanwhile, a statement from defence ministry in Kabul said weapons and explosives were recovered during operations in Farah, Paktia, Kandahar and Helmand provinces.

Twenty rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) shells, three 82mm artillery shells, one walkie-talkie, two anti-aircraft shells and nine Kalashnikov magazines were seized in Bala Baluk district of Farah province.

Explosives, two AK-47 assault rifles, as many carbines and 24 hand grenades were recovered in Paktia, Kandahar and Helmand provinces, the ministry said.
