Wavelink Corporation, a provider of mobile infrastructure management software for the enterprise, and Funk Software, a leading commercial developer of wireless local area network (WLAN See wireless LAN.

Customers will now be able to create and distribute multiple security authentication profiles and updates for the Odyssey Client to a collection of mobile devices through Wavelink Avalanche, allowing for easy, cost-effective distribution and maintenance.

Wavelink Avalanche extends the managebility of the Odyssey Client by allowing IT administrators to create multiple authentication profiles for specific users and automatically push these profiles--or updates to the Odyssey Client itself--to targeted mobile devices from a centrally located console. IT departments no longer have to physically touch each device to deploy, update and maintain multiple Odyessy Clients and are able to realize significant time savings as a result.

"Integration between the core components of WLANs is critical to the continued growth and success of enterprise wireless LAN A local area network that transmits over the air typically in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz unlicensed frequency band. It does not require line of sight between sender and receiver. Wireless base stations (access points) are wired to an Ethernet network and transmit a radio frequency over an area  deployments," said Gemma Paulo, senior analyst, In-Stat/MDR. "Funk Software and Wavelink are leaders in the market for WLAN security and management whose customers will quickly realize the benefits of enforcing mobile device security through a central management console."

"We are committed to providing our customers with best-of-breed WLAN security solutions," said Joe Ryan, vice president of Funk Software. "Compatibility with Wavelink Avalanche allows our customers to effortlessly manage the critical security functionality provided by Odyssey Client. Additionally, the standards-based architecture of the products allows customers the flexibility to choose hardware and software that best fits their organization as they expand their enterprise WLANs."

"Effective security and management are critical in determining the success of enterprise WLAN deployments," said Eric Hermelee, vice president of marketing, Wavelink Corporation. "This partnership allows customers to take full advantage of the functionality of both Avalanche and Odyssey Client to achieve wireless network security quickly, allowing IT staffs to focus more time on their business instead of device administration."

Odyssey Client is the 802.1X access client that is most suitable for deployment on enterprise networks. Its multi-platform, multi-protocol support ensures compatibility in any environment, whether on the secure enterprise WLAN or wired 802.1X network, or at a public WLAN hotspot.

Odyssey Client runs on Windows XP, 2000, 98, Me, Pocket PC 2002, and Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC, and supports EAP-TTLS See EAP. , PEAP See EAP.  (v0 and v1), EAP-TLS See EAP. , and LEAP authentication methods, and Wi-Fi Protected Access (networking, security) Wi-Fi Protected Access - (WPA) A security scheme for wireless networks, developed by the networking industry in response to the shortcomings of Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP).  (WPA WPA: see Work Projects Administration.
