Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

KIRKLAND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 13, 2003

Wavelink Corporation, a leading provider of mobile infrastructure management software for the enterprise, today announced the availability of an enhanced version of Wavelink Mobile Manager(TM) that further advances the product's position as the industry's most scalable, proven, multi-vendor WLAN See wireless LAN.

WLAN - wireless local area network
 management solution.

Wavelink's WLAN management software, Mobile Manager, enables network administrators to rapidly deploy, efficiently secure and easily manage wireless networks, including multi-site wireless LAN A local area network that transmits over the air typically in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz unlicensed frequency band. It does not require line of sight between sender and receiver. Wireless base stations (access points) are wired to an Ethernet network and transmit a radio frequency over an area  implementations, from a central console. With the latest enhancements to Mobile Manager, enterprise customers can now manage more than 5,000 access points (APs) from a single server -- making it the most scalable solution in the industry.

Mobile Manager has also expanded its multi-vendor offering by adding support for Proxim Corporation's access points, the ORiNOCO AP-2000 and ORiNOCO AP-600, and for Dell's TrueMobile 1170 access points, providing customers with the flexibility to manage networks across varying hardware platforms. In addition, Mobile Manager is the first to support Cisco's new Aironet access points now running IOS (1) (Internetwork Operating System) An operating system from Cisco that is the primary control program used in its routers. IOS is widely used and robust system software that supports the common functions of all products under Cisco's CiscoFusion architecture.  software, and offers its customers the ability to painlessly migrate installed legacy Cisco APs to the new IOS platform.

"Large enterprises see great potential in wireless LANs, but fear the management challenges that arise when these networks span hundreds or thousands of access points -- often from different vendors and spread out over multiple locations," said Warren Wilson, senior analyst, Summit Strategies. "Wavelink Mobile Manager has long been one of the top WLAN management products in terms of scalability and multi-vendor support. The new version further enhances those capabilities and strengthens Wavelink's leadership in this crucial industry sector."

Wavelink also recently announced a version of Mobile Manager that integrates with HP OpenView for a single centralized solution for both wired and wireless networks. This product will be available for general release in August.

With over 300 customers across a broad range of industries, Wavelink Mobile Manager continues to extend its leadership in enterprise wireless LAN management.
