Watterson, the No. 5 seed who lost in the semifinals on Friday night, won his first wrestleback match over Wade Sauer of Cal State-Fullerton, 4-0, to advance to the third-place match.

Ducks make quick work

of Towson State

For the second straight day, the Oregon softball team made sure it would be a quick day at Howe Field.

The No. 14 Ducks rolled up two more victories under the eight-run rule after getting two the day before, beating Towson State 9-0 and 8-0 in the Cascade Clash on Saturday.

Oregon (28-3), got a three-run home run from Ann Marie Topps in the bottom of the sixth inning to finish off the first game, and Joanna Gail's two-run single keyed a four-run fifth inning to put away the second game.

Jennifer Salling was 2-for-2 with a triple and home run in the opener, and Sari-Jane Jenkins was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a double.

Oregon's Melissa Rice (13-2) allowed three hits to earn the victory.

In the second game, Oregon led 4-0 before the four-run outburst in the fifth inning ended the game. Gail drove in three runs for the Ducks in the second game to support junior pitcher Alicia Cook, who allowed just two hits to win her 15th consecutive decision.

The Beavers turned two double plays in the loss, but gave up the first run of the game on a bases-loaded wild pitch in the fourth inning.

"It feels great," Wallace said. "I've come close a couple times this year, but it feels great to put one out. We're starting to get in a groove, and everybody in the lineup has been swinging it well lately. We're putting it together now."

Canham hit his home run in the seventh inning, and Jason Ogata also drove in two runs for the Beavers.

"Early on, we were a little worried because the turf is too slow," said Canham of the Beavers' new FieldTurf surface at Coleman Field. "But it makes us hit line drives, so now we're putting better contact on it to get on base. I like where it's going."

Jonnie Knoble hit a solo home run for the Dons (9-11) in the first inning, and Derek Poppert and Mitchell Bialosky had two hits apiece.
