(Editorial).It's hard to write about the effects of the murderous actions of September 11 without coming across as trivializing the magnitude of what happened, and we really won't have a handle on that for quite some time. It's hard to imagine someone who hasn't been directly affected. Our deepest sympathies go out to those who have really suffered because of this. It's too early to tell how the events of September 11 have impacted the rubber industry. They have already forced the cancellation of the International Rubber Study Group's annual meeting as well as Global Rubber Conference 2001, a joint meeting sponsored by Bayer and Rubber World Magazine. To say that this was a big disappointment is an understatement. The work done by the people at Bayer and Rubber World involved in GRC 2001 had resulted in one of the strongest programs of this type that I have seen. Hopefully their work has not been totally in vain. As I write, GRC 2002 is being planned, and if you were at the first one in 2000, you can expect an equally strong program. |
