Washington Group Wins Contract to Provide Construction Services for Hanford Nuclear Waste Project.

The two teams were selected to share approximately $107 million in construction tasks over the next five years for CH2M Hill Hanford Group, which holds the prime contract to manage 54 million gallons of nuclear waste in 177 tanks on the U.S. Department of Energy's Hanford site The Hanford Site is a facility of the government of the United States established to provide plutonium necessary for the development of nuclear weapons. It was established in 1943 as the Hanford Engineer Works, part of the Manhattan Project, and codenamed "Site W.  in western Washington

Specific tasks that are part of the two contracts include construction and upgrades of tank ventilation systems, waste transfer and retrieval systems, and interim waste storage facilities to support tank farm closure activities.
