Washington DC Chapter.In celebration of National Transportation Week and to honor all transportation professionals, the Washington DC Chapter held a National Transportation Day black tie evening reception on May 18, 2004 at the Historical Society of Washington DC and City Museum. The chapter experienced the largest attendance in recent years with over 200 attendees, all of whom had a wonderful first class evening with fine food, drink and entertainment. This event demonstrated remarkable coordination with NDTAHQ and the local chapter on a vital NDTA NDTA National Defense Transportation Association NDTA National Dance Teachers Association NDTA Neuro-Developmental Treatment Association (Laguna Beach, CA) NDTA North Dakota Telephone Association wide event. We also had a record level of contributions from our corporate sponsors--President's Circle sponsors were FedEx, Landstar Systems, Maersk Line Ltd, SAIC SAIC - http://saic.com. , and SRA International. Our Distinguished patrons were American Maritime Officers American Maritime Officers (AMO) is a national labor union affiliated with the Seafarers International Union of North America. With an active membership of approximately 4,000, AMO is the largest union of merchant marine officers in the U.S. and American Maritime Congress. Our Patrons were Bristol Associates, Eagle Global Logistics, IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) Consulting, Menlo Worldwide, Stanley Associates, and UPS. In addition, our A-35ers were instrumental in organizing and operating the National Headquarters A-35 exhibition booth at the NTW Conference and Expo. Volunteers from the DC Chapter also helped in various support roles. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Meanwhile in other chapter news, the board approved the awarding of an all time high amount of scholarships--$15,000 was awarded to 12 area university students. Our luncheon speakers this past quarter were Adm Gordon Holder, JS J4, and Mr. Mark O'Konski, Director Army Logistics Transformation Agency. Our June speaker is Mr. Andy Fogarty, the President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. of CSX Terminals and also the Chairman of NDTA. Mr. Fogarty will administer the oath of office An oath of office is an oath or affirmation a person takes before undertaking the duties of an office, usually a position in government or within a religious body, although such oaths are sometimes required of officers of other organizations. to the new board at the June luncheon. We also continue to bag groceries at the Arlington Food Assistance Center ever fourth Wednesday of the month. |
