Warmth revives Elvis, the Beach Boys.

Byline: LEWIS TAYLOR The Register-Guard

THE SUMMER concert season is heating up. From Bonnie Raitt at the Schnitz (June 14) to B.B. King at the Cuthbert (Aug. 3), there are plenty of musical scorchers to look forward to.

Bloated arena shows ruled in 2001, but the summer of 2002 offers a more subdued schedule that will welcome not only the monsters of rock Monsters of Rock was an annual rock music festival in England held every August at the Castle Donington racetrack from 1980–1996 (with the odd exception, and a one-off comeback in 2006). Monsters of Rock festivals have also been organized in other cities around the world.  (Eagles, June 13, Portland's Rose Garden; The Who, July 6, the Gorge), but also the welterweights from across the musical spectrum (Guided by Voices, June 22, Crystal Ballroom; Down From the Mountain, July 26, L.B. Day Amphitheatre).

New concert venues such as the Secret House Vineyards (see story, Page 15) are cropping up alongside the old standbys such as the Gorge Amphitheater in George, Wash. Meanwhile, the Oregon Country Fair The Oregon Country Fair (OCF) is a three-day fair that takes place yearly beginning on the Friday of the second weekend in July in Veneta, Oregon, approximately 15 miles west of Eugene, with an attendance of approximately 45,000 over the three day period, with attendance peaking  (July 12-14), Seattle's Bumbershoot bum·ber·shoot
