War Eagle Mining Company Inc. - 2001 Work Program Confirms MAC Tantalum Property Potential.Business Editors VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 21, 2001 War Eagle Mining Company Inc. announces further tantalum tantalum (tăn`tələm) [from Tantalus], metallic chemical element; symbol Ta; at. no. 73; at. wt. 180.9479; m.p. 2,996°C;; b.p. 5,400±100°C;; sp. gr. 16.65 at 20°C;; valence +2, +3, +4, or +5. results from the MAC property located in the Mackenzie Mountains, Northwest Territories, near the Cantung Mine road. The 2001 results have demonstrated the property's potential to host significant tantalum/tin mineralization Mineralization The process by which the body uses minerals to build bone structure. Mentioned in: Rickets mineralization, n the bioprecipitation of an inorganic substance. over a strike length of at least 12 km and a width of 2.5 km. The program has outlined two specific areas in the northern and southern parts of the complex where more detailed work will be focused to establish tantalum/tin drill targets early in the 2002 exploration season. The 2001 exploration program included geological mapping, prospecting and sampling of seven highly differentiated pegmatite pegmatite: see granite. pegmatite Almost any wholly crystalline igneous rock that is at least in part very coarse-grained, the major constituents of which include minerals typically found in ordinary igneous rocks (such as granites) and in which dyke swarms comprising the Little Nahanni Pegmatite Group (LNPG). These uncommon granitic bodies are of economic interest for their tantalum and tin content as well as spodumene, a high-grade lithium bearing mineral. They are geologically similar to dykes being mined by Sons of Gwalia Sons of Gwalia is a Western Australian mining company who mine Tantalum, Spodumene, Lithium and Tin. [1] The original "Sons of Gwalia" was a gold mine established in the late 19th century, and which gave its name to the nearby town of Gwalia. at its Greenbushes Deposit in Western Australia, which produces over 25% of the world's tantalum at a reported grade of 230 g/t Ta2O5. Mapping has identified seven steeply dipping, northwest trending, en echelon dyke swarms that range from 40 to 500 m in width and are individually traceable for up to 5 km along strike. Although most of the dyke swarms are exposed within a 12 km x 2.5 km area, additional dykes have been documented up to 1.5 km beyond the main exposures. Each swarm contains as many as 25 dykes ranging from 0.5 to 10 m wide with cumulative thicknesses of greater than 25 m. Areas where an echelon dyke swarms overlap contain up to 50 m of pegmatite collectively. Dyke swarms generally show good continuity, however; individual dykes often bifurcate To divide into two. or merge along strike or down dip. The rugged nature of the area exposes up to 300 m of vertical relief on some dykes, a few of which thicken thick·en tr. & intr.v. thick·ened, thick·en·ing, thick·ens 1. For example, elevation and thickness data collected from seven dykes at various points along the complex shows an average down dip thickening of about 600% per 100 vertical metres. Channel and chip samples from the southern portion of the 4 km x 2 km complex containing the Climbing Wall, Wall of Voodoo Wall of Voodoo was a New Wave group from Los Angeles best known for the 1983 hit "Mexican Radio". The band had a sound that was a fusion of synthesizer-based New Wave music with the spaghetti western soundtrack style of Ennio Morricone. and Prison Wall dyke swarms yielded up to 402 g/t Ta2O5 (tantalum pentoxide) with 1.45% SnO2 (tin oxide tin oxide (SnO), n a polishing agent in the form of a purified white powder, prepared as a paste with glycerine or water. ) across 0.4 m and 201 g/t Ta2O5 with 0.085% SnO2 across 6.0 m. Three specimens collected 700 m along strike and approximately 300 m vertically below the latter locale returned:

These channel, chip and specimen values were obtained from 8 of approximately 20 dykes developed within a 500 m section where the Climbing Wall and Wall of Voodoo coalesce co·a·lesce intr.v. co·a·lesced, co·a·lesc·ing, co·a·lesc·es 1. The area of interest has been significantly expanded by a dyke exposure discovered at the end of the season in a largely till covered area located 1.5 km further south and about 450m vertically lower. A chip sample from that dyke returned 208 g/t Ta2O5 across 1.5 m. Similar encouraging values were obtained from samples taken from the northern portion of the dyke complex. Channel samples from dykes in the Berlin Wall returned up to 563 g/t Ta2O5 with 0.02 % SnO2 across 0.5 m and 554 g/t Ta2O5 and 2.58% SnO2 across 0.25 m. A compilation of the 2001 results confirms broad zoning along the length of the LNPG complex. Pegmatite composition, although diverse, can be segregated into the following visual categories in order of abundance. Feldspar feldspar (fĕl`spär, fĕld`–) or felspar (fĕl`spär), an abundant group of rock-forming minerals which constitute 60% of the earth's crust. composition is dominantly albite albite (ăl`bīt): see feldspar. albite Common feldspar mineral, a sodium aluminosilicate (NaAlSi3O8) that occurs most widely in pegmatites and acid igneous rocks such as granites. (Na) greater than orthoclase orthoclase Common alkali feldspar mineral, potassium aluminosilicate (KAlSi3O8), that usually occurs as variously coloured grains in granite. Orthoclase is used in the manufacture of glass and ceramics; occasionally, transparent crystals are cut as gems. (K).

The central portion of the complex mainly hosts SQF SQF Safe Quality Foods SQF System Quality Factor SQF Structural Qualification Facilities (David Florida Laboratory, Canadian Space Agency, Ottawa, Canada) SQF Staroffice Query Folder type dykes while the southern and northern portions contain larger quantities of the other four types. The QM group generally contains significantly more tantalum and tin mineralization. The tantalum, tin and lithium minerals at the Greenbushes Australian property are derived from pegmatite hosted in a sequence of metasediments. The two main ore zones within the pegmatite are the "Albite" zone, containing tantalum and tin minerals, and the "Spodumene" zone, containing high grade lithium assays. The following table lists the arithmetic average tantalum and tin values for samples taken of the pegmatite classes described above during the 2001 program.

The central part of the LNPG (roughly 4 km x 1 km) containing the Great Wall of China, Hadrian's Wall and the Berlin Wall is dominantly comprised of spodumene-quartz-felspar pegmatite dykes with visual spodumene across 5 m. Channel and chip samples across such dykes returned up to 187 g/t Ta2O5 across 2.53 m.
